Denise Green
New works from New York
In the painting of Denise Green lies a search for meaning and the discovery of self - they are a chronicle of her journey. Perhaps for the viewer the most important thing in painting is to absorb the emotion it offers - what can be moments of pure awe and rapture. Only then does one bring the intellect and previous knowledge of art to bear.
It is the combination of awe and knowledge that produce the lasting effects on us, and Green's work lends itself to this process brilliantly.
She projects, in her own words, 'the process of metonymic thinking', which implies the fusion of an inner spiritual and outer material world. In this she shares an affinity at Annandale Galleries with other great Australian artists such as Brian Blanchflower and John Muwurndjul who express similar spiritual concerns, albeit using very different approaches.
