For the past four decades, Julie Harris has approached painting with vigorous dedication and unrelenting inquisitiveness. Her practice is refreshingly hard to pin down, and with each visit to the artist’s Blackheath studio there is a promise of newly explored territory. Now in her seventies, Harris notes that she is increasingly aware of the steady passage of time and what that means for her artistic career. With a longstanding love of Korean art practices and philosophies, her work has always had the hallmarks of meditative repetition but increasingly punctuated by explosive gestures that suggest a newfound restless curiosity.
