SARA OSCAR
The Mute & Counterfactual Departures Series
Sara Oscar's recent photographic work uses machine learning to reclaim moments forever lost, notably the artists mothers emigration story from Thailand in the 1970s. Oscar works within and against the visual language of documentary photography, with its familiar iconography and subjects shaped by a Western gaze.
Despite being artificially generated, it is telling that we read these photographs, the racial subjects depicted in them, the gestures of the feminine, as deeply embedded in the cosmology of photography as a way of seeing and being.
Exhibition dates: 15 July - 1 August 2026

If I Were a Cactus
Featuring Studio A artists
Emily Crockford, Annette Galstaun, Daniel Kim, Meagan Pelham, Thom Roberts, Damian Showyin, Lex Tan
Seven Studio A artists present everyday surroundings as a catalyst for constructing and communicating reality, in their own distinctive ways. Oscillating between the familiar and fantastical, landscapes become more than backdrops, domestic items become more than functional. We are invited to experience suburban streets reimagined in heightened colour, birds painted like precious jewels. In this way, finding beauty in the otherwise ordinary is more than visually captivating; it is an imperative for those who wish to authentically connect with the present.
If I Were A Cactus is made possible through collaboration with Studio A, a Sydney-based organisation dedicated to professionally empowering artists with intellectual disability and ensuring their voices are heard within contemporary Australian culture.

WILLIAM KENTRIDGE
Sydney Contemporary Art Fair BOOTH A05
With over three decades of sustained collaboration, Annandale Galleries is proud to present new work by William Kentridge. Large bronzes emerge like shadows in motion, tracing forms that shift in and out of coherence from each new vantage point. Elaborate prints seem to fall effortlessly into place, as leaves of the tree and leaves of the book combine to speak to us like prophets.

GUNYBI GANAMBARR
Sydney Contemporary Art Fair BOOTH A05
Gunybi Ganambarr has had six solos at Annandale Galleries spanning over two decades. The Yolngu artist, working from his remote hometown of Gangan, has produced some of the most groundbreaking work of his generation. Under Ganambarr’s hand, the mass and rigidity of reclaimed metal seemingly melts away, often representing sacred reservoirs and springs.
